Biographical Text

Henry Churchill King taught mathematics, philosophy, and theology at Oberlin College starting in 1884. He became president of the college in 1902 and was tenured until 1927. King was the longest-serving President of Oberlin, having worked 25 years. He was a part of the King-Crane Commission, an investigation of the non-Turkish areas of the Ottoman Empire. King died in 1934.

King married Julia Coates in 1883. They had four sons together.

King often corresponded with Jane Addams, asking her to attend and speak at events. Addams spoke at Oberlin many times. The pair spoke at length about various politics and social issues.
