Mr Frederick H Deknatel,
Hull House, 335 South Halsted St,
Chicago.

My dear Sir:

I am very sorry indeed to get your word about Miss Addams, for I did not understand that her acceptance of this Washington appointment was provisional, and she has been definitely announced in the statements sent out concerning the convention. But, of course, if she cannot be present, she cannot, and I must make the best adjustment that I can, ↑[though] I hardly know where to turn at this date. This is only item now lacking on our program.↓

Very truly yours,
