Dear Miss Addams,
I have just had a letter from Miss Balch speaking of the need of having a meeting of the Board of the W.I.L.P.F. This has reminded me that I am not able to give any time to the work of the League and that I should not be able to attend a meeting of the Board if it were called. I, therefore, wish with much regret to tender to you my resignation. It is not that I do not think the work of the League of the very greatest and urgent importance. I quite [realize] the very valuable work it is doing. I do not like to remain in a position without taking a share in the work the position ought to involve, especially so when there are so many able women in different countries who [illegible] are directly working for the League and who could take my place.
I count it a very great privilege to have had this opportunity of working with you and with the women [illegible] who have since 1915 been associated with the movement out of which the W.I.L.P.F. has grown.
I am sending a copy of this letter at once to Miss Balch so that there may be no delay in taking the necessary steps to fill up the vacancy on the Board. At the same time I wish to resign from the Chairmanship of the proposed Committee on the Nationality of Married Women as I have not found it possible to do the correspondence necessary for this post.
