My Dear Miss Addams,
Yours of May 14 is at hand. In reply to the points raised in it, please note:
1st I did not receive a copy of the letter issued to the Com. Section of the International Committee on Feb 23d.
2nd -- I did receive the second letter, issued on April 24th and to this I replied immediately addressing response to Mrs. Karsten -- as Office Sec'y, of the Com.
3d -- I am one of the four who could come to Chicago at the end of June and who cannot in that month go to either N.Y. or [page 2] Boston [written in the top margin to explain stricken text unrelated to this letter] Please pardon, I did not know sheet was marred until I turned it now.) I certainly should like to be one of those accepting Mrs. Bond's hospitality, as long ago I enjoyed her very agreeable acquaintance -- but it is for that lucky majority of fourteen to decide when to meet. Personally, I see no reason to believe that December the time of the Annual meeting will not be in ample time for preparations for the Congress to be held coincidentally in time and place with that of the men who will be summoned to make the Peace Pact at the end of the War. I am in touch with the work being done by the New York Branch and have one [representative] among the young women attending its school. [page 3]
As soon as I am able to write a real letter I shall send you a full report of my efforts to build up a Committee of Chinese women.
I have been now for many months unable to write more than one short letter at a time -- but am recuperating here and hope to regain normal physical ability so that I may do the little that is open to me to do at this time. Hoping that whatever decision may be made by the fourteen will promote preparations for Peace.
