March twelfth 1912.

Dear Miss Addams:

On account of changes in the organization of the magazine there has been a certain slowness in payments that has never occurred before. I did not know until a day or two ago that you had not been paid. I am very sorry that it has been delayed but the delay has not been my fault nor the fault of the office. There had to be a reorganization of the business but your articles were one of the great elements in obtaining the influence and standard of the magazine and its circulation and they are the sort of articles that help everywhere to bring to the magazine the support of all rightminded people and we are very proud to have them.

Faithfully yours,

S S McClure [signed]
