Jane Addams to Anna Marcet Haldeman, May 3, 1916

My dear Marcet

I felt quite forlorn when I saw your yellow taxi speeding away and a real tug of homesickness.

Please don't misunderstand my stupid question about your being in love -- if you are all the things [Mrs] Taylor said don't make a mite of difference and you have the greatest thing in the world in your hands. Mary and I are alike in our most favorable impression of Julius and we have had long experience with young people of many kinds. I am very eager to know him better and I am sure that I will find him most congenial. Please give him my love and know that I am always your devoted aunt
