WASHINGTON

June 28, 1916

My dear Miss Addams:

I have received and have read with real feeling the telegram in which you join with Mrs. Anna Garlin Spencer, Mrs. William Kent, Mrs. Louis F. Post, Mrs. Frederick J. Taussig, Mrs. [Lucia] Ames Mead, and Miss Sophonisba P. Breckinridge, and beg to assure you that, so far as I have been able, I have already acted in the spirit of what you and they so earnestly urge. My heart is for peace and I wish that we were dealing with those who would not make it impossible for us.

Cordially and sincerely yours,

Woodrow Wilson [signed]

Miss Jane Addams,
Chicago, Illinois.
