Description

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) is a lineage-based organization made of women who can trace their ancestry to a person involved in the fight for independence. It is a patriotic society that promotes education and democratic ideals. The women who founded the DAR did so because the Sons of Liberty, founded in response to the centennial of George Washington's inauguration, refused to allow women members. The DAR has national, state, and local chapters who have installed monuments and grave markers, sent a nursing team to help during the Spanish-American War, and weighed in on revising textbooks.
