My dear Mother
I am sending you my very best wishes for a happy birthday. I hope the electric lamp reached you in time for the day and that it will give you comfort and pleasure. It has much affection and many wishes for many returns of the happy day. [page 2] I was exceedingly warm here yesterday but a blessed relief came today in the shape of thunder showers. I have just come back from the county club at Waukegan where everything is most delightful -- not excepting the garden full of [hollyhocks].
I will write to you from Maine when I join Mary Smith and Mrs Bowen next Saturday.
