My dear Miss Addams:

I regret to say that Mr. Lovejoy is in Washington and cannot reply immediately to your note of January 14th which we have just received. I am forwarding it on to him, but meanwhile may I request that you read the enclosed copy of a letter which Mr. Lovejoy recently wrote Miss Julia Lathrop in explanation of the seemingly anomalous position our Committee has taken on the child labor amendment? It may perhaps serve to clear up your doubts as to the wisdom of our policy.

With great respect, I am

Faithfully yours,
