Dear Mr. Ickes: --

I am leaving for Washington tomorrow (Thursday) morning at half past ten, where we are holding the first annual meeting of the Women's Peace Party. As I do not expect to return until Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, I shall have to miss the meeting on January 11th. I am sorry not to be in town. The meeting has my best wishes for a successful issue.

We are planning to consider the enclosed recommendations. I fear they will not recommend themselves to the Progressive Party [although] they express my conviction that <[Intimately?]> there is more than peace and war to be considered!

With best wishes to Mrs. Ickes and yourself, believe me,

Yours faithfully,

Jane Addams

Mr. Harold L. Ickes
