My dear Mrs. Rogers:-
I thank you very much for the kind letter which you sent me with the receipt.
The matter of the Vice Presidency at Nashville may have been due to a series of misunderstandings; but I was told, both before and after the election, that the existing vice-presidents were to be done away with and that my name would stand alone. Because I was not willing to occupy such a position I declined the office.
When Miss Shaw told me the other day that the other vice-presidents were to be retained, I said that I should be glad to have my name remain with the others, and I hope this will do away with all misunderstanding.
I am sure you know that I have in no wise lost any of my interest or enthusiasm in suffrage. I am doing all I possibly can for it.
