My dear Miss Thomas: --
I am most happy to know from your letter that you are to be in Chicago as I have been very anxious to see you. Will you not dine at Hull-House on Saturday evening at half past six with Miss Breckinridge and myself? We will invite a very few people to meet you and perhaps we could have a little conference after dinner on the rather vexed situation which confronts us.
We have heard this morning that Wisconsin is lost. There seems to be no doubt that Kansas and Arizona have gone through and we still have hopes for Oregon. It looks as if we would have to be content with the Western states for a long time.
Very sincerely yours,
