My dear Mr. Brett:--

You are most kind to advance the check for the royalties on "Twenty Years at Hull-House." I am naturally very much gratified that it is such a large one, for many reasons. The "Pearsons Magazine" has not yet arrived, but I shall be interested in reading the article. We are getting together a great deal of interesting material in connection with the Juvenile Protective Association. I will try to look it over in the summer, but I shall have to ask that no book be announced until I have time to go over it quite thoroughly. There is at the present moment a danger of over-statement, or at least an uncomprehending statement of "the girl in the city" situation.

Thanking you for your many kindnesses, I am

Sincerely yours,

Jane Addams. [signed]
