Dear Sister:

At last I had time to read "The Spirit of Youth" -- and am so proud of having it from the Artist who has revealed the beautiful beneath the sordid and the tragic.  It is such a charming [page 2] bit, that first chapter. I hope all the "good people" will read it. I tried to [illegible] one ↑good soul↓ today. She needed the revelation. I am glad I know you and love you -- & I [page 3] rejoice that you are well and among us again. Please give dear Mary Smith just the highest [heartiest] wish you can lift, and please hand here a bunch of flowers that [illegible] ↑from↓ my heart but mine can see with a loyal heart towards you & all you do.  I am yours

Mary E. McDowell
