My dear Miss Birmingham --
We have been delayed upon this rather "hotel" French boat that I feel the equal of any of the Parisian costumes when I put on my fine new necklace for dinner which I do many evenings. We have had a fine voyage from Ceylon stopping often, once at Singapore which is very near the equator, but unhappily a lot of [illegible] of this French colony has delayed us in rather a hot part of the world. It has all been very interesting and we are anticipating the [Philippines'] climate. [Illegible] with a good deal of interest and [a sense] of turning toward home. Always [and cordially?] yours Jane Addams
