The Castle of Lauenstein, built in the 11th century, but now restored and modernized, stands 550 [meters] high on a thickly wooded hill on the border between Franconia and the Thuringian Forest. Here will take place the International Summer School organized this year by the German section of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom.

LECTURES: In order to allow sufficient times for common discussions on international problems there will be only one lecture each morning and each afternoon; when fine, the lectures will be given in the castle court; when wet, in the Knight's Hall. The lecturers' names will all be given later. Up to date the following have accepted: Bertrand Russell -- London, Dr. Blanche Reverchon -- Paris, Heinrich Vogeler -- Worpswede. Dr. Anita Augspurg will open the School on Tuesday 1st August at 10 a.m. It is intended to arrange for the evenings single lectures upon new social ideas and contemporary problems as well as artistic and musical (chamber music) entertainments.

HOUSING: Burg Lauenstein was selected in order to accede to the wish expressed last year at Salzburg, that a more intimate common life should be provided, and in the conviction that many people have not the opportunity of getting to know and understand people of other nationalities through a common life with them. We hope to welcome young people from many lands there. The number of students is conditioned by the housing capacity of the castle and village of Lauenstein and the number of those who can actually live in the place is restricted. For this reason only five persons from each country can be admitted and preference will be given to those who did not attend last year's International Summer School at Salzburg; for it is important to win new adherents to our cause. The [neighboring] places of Probstzella and Ludwigstadt, however, offer further possibilities for the housing of students. They have good railway connections morning and evening (20 minutes' journey) and can be reached by walk of 1 hour and a quarter through a beautiful wood. Only a few single rooms are available in the castle and these must be reserved preferably for the lecturers, while students must be prepared to share a room with others; the rooms in the castle are however very spacious.

TICKETS OF ADMISSION, including lodging, board (5 meals) and all lectures and entertainments in the castle, can be sent only in return for the prepayment of the fee in banknotes of the respective countries. [page 3]

Nationals of other countries are requested to apply for conditions to the address given below. The above prices are not binding, a reservation being made on account of possible fluctuation in market prices and the exchange during the summer.

APPLICATION must be received by June 1st and tickets will be sent out only after this date. They will be valid from Monday 31st July, but rooms can be reserved from Sunday 30th July on payment of an additional sum.

RAILWAY CONNECTIONS AND LUGGAGE: Only slow trains stop at Lauenstein Station. The nearest station for express trains is Probstzella (main line Berlin-Munich) where carriages await the trains (4 seaters 150 marks) and whence the castle can be reached by a walk of 1 hour and a quarter by pretty foot path. Luggage can be sent on to Lauenstein (Oberfranken) station.

EXCURSIONS: The hill country clothed with forests of conifers offers a wealth of lovely walks and excursions, half or whole-day, in the Franken and Thüringerwald, e.g. to the romantic Schwarzatal, to the Trappist monastery of Banz and Vierzehnheiligen, to the castle of Koburg. It is a short rail journey to Weimar, Jena, Rudolstadt, Saalfeld etc.
