Thank you very much for the trouble you took to send me your article on "Chicago Settlements and the Social Unrest."

I read it through most carefully and with great interest.

All you say is very true and I trust will influence some minds to a broader sense of justice and fairness in their outlook on all kinds of peoples.

Carlyle says somewhere that he would despair of the so called improvement in human nature if he took a close view about [page 2] him -- but when he took a larger view and compared generations, there seemed to be a [leaven?] <a higher overall> [illegible] the higher ideal -- this is by no means his words -- but his idea only.

I really believe that the world is becoming more just -- more open minded and fairer on all these questions -- but the near view sometimes is discouraging.

Thank you very much. I appreciate and agree with your entire article.
