Grace Abbott to Jane Addams, June 9, 1920

Miss Addams -- I talked with Mrs [Jungelenis?] about this -- she says that Vilnius (Vilna) is still in the hands of the Poles and the prospect of raising money for a Lithuanian University there is poor -- even among Lithuanians who hope that Vilna is to be restored to them. While there is much need for a university and a good of suffering among the students in Vilna by the [page 2] hunger in so many [parts?] of the world it seems improbable that [American] support for education in Lithuania can be secured -- at least any plan should be postponed until the present political uncertainties are settled. It would be better not to mention Mrs. J. in replying to [Szlupas].
