My dear Miss Addams:

I have just been reading your address "Patriotism and Pacifists in War Time". It is a splendid statement of the case as it lies in the minds of a great many of us. Unfortunately in times like these there is very little opportunity for a fair expression of the simple truth. The plain, cold facts are not what is wanted at the present time. We hope, of course, the time will soon come when the world can take its stands once more on the principles which you enunciate and I trust there will be enough of us left to make an impression when that day comes. We are all very grateful to you for your leadership in this matter.

Sincerely yours,

Frank A. Waugh [signed]
