My dear Alice

We all enjoyed Marcet's visit very much and it was charming to have her come.  I hope that we are going to have many more such visits during the two years.  I was sorry to go away before she did but the Washington engagement was iron clad.  I was the guest of Miss [Abby] Ware who was most kind to me, and I was also invited to lunch at the White House which was a very jolly and interesting experience.
