Dear Emily Balch

Isn't it too wonderful to have that big check -- I could hardly believe my senses when I took [the] telegram over the phone. I am writing at once to Miss McMurtrie but you are the person I am most grateful to -- what a difference it does make having you back in this country to my sense of having someone who also is really pulling on the international end!

Do you suppose that Mrs Post will want to order another 1000 copies, we might call 1000 the property of the U.S.A. section from the survey they are sending in & let them sell them for 75 cents. I will not write of this however but [page 2] leave it to you -- if you think it wise.

I sent out all of the [Penn.] ones yesterday and a few more making the total about 24, then I stopped quite discouraged -- it seemed to mean to ask yet again.

I am awfully sorry about both gatherings left -- but my niece her daughter are coming Sept. 8" or 9" to be here a little while & that knocks out the last possibility.

Sometime I will come to J. P. & see you and Miss [Follette].

Always yrs Jane Addams

P.S. I am quite impressed with [Kallen's] last book.
