August twenty-eighth 1911.
Dear Miss Addams:
Your terms are quite all right except your stipulation with regard to publishing the book in March, and even this will be all right if you can help us to get the article into the November number. That means, of course, that we would have to have the copy for the first article by September first, so that there would not be time for much working over. Could you not use a combination of the Introduction and the chapter on "Philanthropic Effort" for the first article? Or perhaps it would be a more effective [page 2] order to use the introduction and the chapter on "Amelioration of Economic Conditions"; then the chapter on "Philanthropic Effort" and, after that, the one on "Legal Action".
If you are willing, therefore, to get the first article into November, please telegraph me what material you want in the first article, and I will look it over and send it to you for revision, making suggestions as to where I think it might be cut or condensed in order to print the introduction and whole additional chapter within the scope of one article.
