My dear Miss Addams:
I thank you for your letter, and I am heartily glad that you have gone about this task, and that the matter will soon appear; for I am sure it will do a great deal of good in the world, since it will be ↑a record of↓ one of the most interesting human experiences of our generation.
I cannot conceal from you my regret that you did not see fit to allow us to publish this in "The World's Work", of which we should have been very proud, and also in a book ↑to↓ which we should given our best attention. But, of course, I have no ground to quarrel with you on your choice, even if I had a disposition to do so. The thing of the first importance is that you will do this task, and it is of secondary importance who shall happen to serve you as publishers. Although, therefore, I regret [page 2] that we have been denied so good a chance to use our machinery for this purpose, I beg you to regard this note as only a note of congratulation.
