My dear Miss Addams,

I don't think that since I finished your book, I have written to express the satisfaction it has given me. I have nothing to criticize in it, except a misprint on page 234: Bandaroff should be Bondoroff.

The book is full of good things, and strikes just the right note. The rigid Quaker or Tolstoyan disapproval of war as a sin, is not quite convincing; but the sympathetic reference, for helping rather than hurting men, is irresistible. I mean to say, that a warm sympathy is better than a rigid theory.

When are you coming to England again? and why don't you send us any American visitors from Hull House?

Yours very truly,

Aylmer Maude [signed]
