My dear Miss Addams

In returning Miss Scudder's "Social Ideals in English Letters," [which] you kindly lent me last Spring, I want to say that I have read it with exceptional delight -- twice, once to myself and then aloud to my wife.  Miss [page 2] Scudder seems to me to be a little "shy" on economic analysis in one or two fundamental particulars; but her spirit, her literary quality, her grasp of the social situation and the eternal processes of its evolution, all appeal to me most strongly. But [page 3] for you I feel the book might never have crossed my path, and I feel a deep sense of indebtedness accordingly--

Sincerely your friend

Louis F. Post
