My dear Mr. Ickes:

I, of course, was very much interested in the statement which you sent me the middle of December. I am afraid, however, that I am unable to accept your premises in regard to the Republican Party -- perhaps because I am too much of a pragmatist.

I should very much like to see you some day to talk over various things with you. I do not like to lose my old Progressive comrades.

<With all good wishes for the New year to Mrs Ickes & yourself I am>

Faithfully yours,

Jane Addams. [signed]

Harold Ickes, Esq.,
Chicago, Illinois.
