Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House, Chicago, Ill.

Dear Miss Addams: --

I am writing to a few people, without Gifford's knowledge, asking for a statement of a few hundred words to be published over their signatures in Gifford's campaign book, and used in the Pennsylvania papers. If you feel like doing this it would indeed be of great service to Gifford's campaign. From what I now gather the three-cornered fight in Pennsylvania is exceedingly uncertain, but Gifford seems to have a good chance. The "dope" seems to be at present that the race will narrow down to him and Penrose.

With kindest regards, believe me,

Sincerely yours,
