May 16, 1910.

My dear Miss Addams:-

I beg to acknowledge receipt of your letter of May 13th. I am exceedingly glad that we may have the privilege of your attendance at the Commencement Exercises. This is the first time that Yale University has conferred a degree upon a woman and we count it a privilege to have you our first recipient. The fact that you have received another degree from another University does not make any difference in the form of procedure.

Very truly yours,

Anson Phelps Stokes [signed]

Miss Jane Addams,
800 S. Halsted street,
Chicago, Ill.
