My dear Miss Addams:

I enjoyed very much your wonderful article, and am sending you a [check] for $300. in payment for it, if that is satisfactory.

I wonder if I could get a specially good lot of pictures for the article? Have you something good of [Tolstoy] and his family, and, of course, a picture of yourself? I am thinking of using the article in the August number, to follow the article by William James in the July number, which, in discussing "The Moral Equivalent of War" seems to suggest physical work as the proper field in which to find a moral equivalent.

Faithfully yours,

S. S. McClure. [signed]
