Biographical Text

Leonora O'Reilly was the child of a widowed Irish immigrant. She worked under a sewing instructor starting at the age of eleven. From 1903 to 1915 she worked as a recruiter and for the Women’s Trade Union League, and she often spoke of labor reform and women's suffrage, such as when she was a representative in a Senate Committee on Suffrage. O'Reilly was a member of Comte Synthetic Circle and the Socialist Party of New York, she founded the Wage Earners Suffrage League and served as its president from 1911 to 1912, and she was the Chair of the Industrial Committee of the New York City Women Suffrage Party.

O'Reilly never married. In 1907 she adopted a daughter, Alice, who died in 1911. O'Reilly died in 1927.
