My dear Mrs. Dewey:
Miss Addams desires me to say that she is very sorry indeed that she will not be able to come to the Lake Placid Conferences. There are two School Board meetings during the same week, from which she cannot be absent. She has postponed writing [so] long, thinking that there might be a possibility of arranging in some way, but she has now given it up. She regrets very much her inability to accept your invitation.
Yours sincerely,
Elsie M. Smith. [signed]
