My dear Miss Balch,

First of all will you be good enough to let us know how long your report will take and whether or not you have it written so that we can have an advance copy for the press?

I had a long conference with Mr. Mussey and he says that there is considerable talk in New York of having just such a conference as you suggest. He thinks that it would be a mistake for the League to undertake such a venture because he feels that some [organization] like the Academy of Political Science, people that have access to the real sources of information should undertake the work. However, we are planning to talk the matter over very thoroughly at the conference. Meanwhile Mr. Vanderlip is back from London, and it will be very interesting to see what this attitude is when he talks in New York next week.

We have heard nothing from Miss Cheever in regard to the [organizer], but I suppose that she is busy opening up as we were. Do you know about how many people from your group will be here for the conference? I am looking forward to seeing you here soon? Are you planning to stay with friends or would you like to have a room reserved at the Grace Dodge Hotel? The reservation should be made immediately, I think.
