LELAND STANFORD JUNIOR UNIVERSITY

OFFICE OF THE CHANCELLOR

Stanford University, Cal.,

July 12, 1915.

TO MEMBERS OF THE FACULTIES OF UNIVERSITIES AND COLLEGES OF THE UNITED STATES:

The enclosed is a petition addressed to the President, its purpose being to give him such public support as may be in his efforts to bring the war to an end. We have now every reason to believe that the time is ripe for positive action on his part, that the civil authorities in each nation concerned are ready to respond to the right kind of appeal, and that this is the time for those who believe that the problems of civilization are to be settled in peace and not in war to make themselves felt.

If this petition meets your approval, kindly sign it and secure signatures of like-minded colleagues, returning it without delay to

Louis P. Lochner, Chicago Peace Society,
116 South Michigan Avenue, Chicago.

Very sincerely yours,

David Starr Jordan [signed]
