Biographical Text

John W. Zeller attended the Ohio State Normal University, being a member of its first graduating class. He worked as a superintendent of schools in Grant, Ohio, later becoming superintendent of the Findlay schools. Zeller eventually worked his way up to State Superintendent of Schools in Ohio and State Commissioner of Common Schools. Outside of education, Zeller was a member of the Advisory Board of the American Bureau of Personal and Vocational Psychology, a member of the board of directors of the Findlay YMCA, and acted as a Hancock County delegate for the Republican Party at three state conventions. He was also involved in organizing the Ohio Teachers' Association, serving two terms as its president.

Zeller married Julia Abell in 1874. They had three children together. Zeller died in 1926.
