Barrett, Stockton, California, "Telegram received sincerely hope Miss Addams will reconsider [Philomathean] and other clubs in Northern San Joaquin Valley Federation but in Alameda district over thousand club women directly in and adjacent Stockton could not be reached elsewhere. Stockton city of fifty thousand with immense rural population adjacent."
