Biographical Text

Ella Mabel Clark was the Treasurer for the University Settlement in New York, where, in 1907, she created a drawing class and a sculpture class. She also organized a humanitarian movement with the settlement's children, encouraging them to be kind towards animals. In addition, Clark managed the settlement's annual Art Exhibitions and assisted in the creation of an art school at the settlement. She was also on the Women's Auxiliary's Board of Managers. In 1912, Clark had the Vermeer Studios built, which were low-cost rental apartments for artists.

Clark died in 1955.
