Dear Sir:

Before Miss Jane Addams left for Maine, she asked me to secure a copy of Dr. David Starr Jordan's last book and send it with her compliments, to you. I regret to say that we had to send away for the book and hence the delay in complying with Miss Addams's wish. I am of the opinion that Miss Addams really intended to send you an earlier publication by Dr. Jordan, "War and the  Breed," because she mentioned that you were particularly interested in the question of military training in the schools.

I am therefore sending you a copy of this book also.
