A Memory
I RECALL with much pleasure my meeting with Madame Severance when the Federation of Women's Clubs had its meeting in Los Angeles some years ago.
I was much impressed with a sense of her vigor and youth. Just before the meeting she had taken a fearless attitude on the subject of race inclusion, if I remember rightly, in a civic procession, and I was much impressed with the way in which she received differences of opinion, meeting the issue squarely on its merits and claiming nothing for herself or cause that the merits of the case did not themselves yield.
I have always remembered the meeting with a sense of tonic, and have much admired the character and ability which can spend a long life and still retain such freshness of mind and spirit. Sincerely yours,
