Jane Addams to Grace Abbott, March 19, 1913

CATARACT HOTEL
ASSOUAN

March 19th 1913

My dear Miss Abbott

We are perfectly entranced with Upper Egypt, it isn't too warm and it is the most picturesque place in the world. I am sending you the two old methods of information which of course you know, but these wonderful things the English are doing in reclaiming the land give me new thoughts on the Imperialistic schemes in spite [page 2] of the [brochure] which you gave me and which I read on the way with the keenest interest.

Will you please excuse this [penciled] note, and believe me Always devotedly yours

Jane Addams

P.S.

We are delayed here for several days owing to a slight illness of Mary's, but it an interesting spot to see with its [Sudanese] Bishareen.
