My dear Judge [Lindsey],
I am sure that I need not tell you that I had nothing to do with the absurd statement in the [enclosed] clipping and that I have steadily refuted it--the ways of the modern newspaper are past finding out.
I am giving some lectures here and seem [page 2] to have nothing but this thesis paper which I am sure you will forgive.
I hope very much that Mrs. Bowan can take my place on the Com.
