Biographical Text

John Blackford Van Meter was the President of the Woman's College of Baltimore (now Goucher College) from 1911 to 1913. He was also the college's first Dean. Van Meter was the first to be rewarded an honorary Doctor of Laws degree by Goucher College in 1914. While President, he worked at the college as Doctor of divinity, professor of philosophy, and Morgan Professor of the English Bible.

Van Meter married Lucinda Cassel in 1866. They had two daughters, Lydia and Linnette. Van Meter died in 1930.
