Dear Miss Addams:
I have your letter of the 14th asking me to take the chairmanship of the Barnett Memorial Fellowship Fund for New York. I am writing just now to say that I cannot decide the matter until I have a chance to talk it over with Miss Wald and some of the other friends here. Of course I want to help in any way that I can, but I am loaded up with duties at Union Seminary in connection with our campaign for Four Million Dollars. I have just returned from a half sabbatical abroad and the Seminary has put a lot of odd jobs in my hands as I have had such a long vacation.
I am a very poor money raiser but if we can get together a good New York committee I shall be glad to help, even if I do not see my way to accepting the chairmanship as you kindly suggest.
With cordial regards, I am,
Very sincerely yours,
