My dear Miss Addams:

You will see that in the enclosed newspaper article it is suggested that you have a feeling that the church is not successfully coping with moral and ethical problems. Is that true? If so, I can see the possibility here of a very helpful article which, while it might meet with a refutation by church people, would at the same time do a vast amount of good. Naturally, an article coming from you on such a subject would be carefully read and heeded and would not be passed by as sensational. I feel this ↑lack of the church's effectiveness↓ so strongly that I would like it very much if I [page 2] discovered that you did and would write me a straightforward article on that subject. May I know about it, please? -- and believe me

Very sincerely yours,

Edward Bok [signed]
