My dear Mr. Ely

Mrs. Kelley has secured a publisher for the book of which I wrote you. Longman, Green and Co. have agreed to take it. I had sent her your letter and supposed she was waiting until you should get back to read the papers, but her [page 2] time was so limited that she was anxious to begin work and felt that she could do nothing until a publisher was found.

May I trouble you to send the papers to her in case Mr. Kellogg has already sent them to you. Mr. Kellogg's address is Brooklin Hancock Co. Maine.

I can not tell you how sorry I am to have troubled you in the matter. [page 3]

It only shows the complications which arise from so many authors for one book, which was clearly pointed out by the Appletons.

I can only hope that the material would not have suited your series.

With cordial greetings to Mrs. Ely

I am

Very sincerely yours

Jane Addams [signed]

To Mr. Richard T. Ely
