Dear [Miss] Addams -- I am impelled to thank you for that article on "Chic. Settlements & Social Unrest", in the May "Charities". I wish that portions of it -- and also of Mr. Foulkes' recent address to The City Club, could be printed and widely distributed. They might help us to some of that calm strength which seems so necessary in this "critical period ↑age↓" of an overgrown and undereducated democracy.
