Dear Alice

Laura did not appear "the last of the week" so I conclude that the invalid wasn't well enough to leave Richmond, unless they may have persuaded Laura to go with them to Jamestown or Old Point Comfort.

I have an engagement at Bryn Mawr tomorrow night and then I go on to Mt Holyoke for a commencement address [for] Wednesday. I spend the night at Overbrook & am most eager to see them all.

I speak at Hannibal Mo Aug 9", is that near Girard? [page 2]

I have an engagement at Chautauqua N.Y. Aug 3d [illegible words] at a [Chautaqua] at Harlan Iowa Aug 11", but between the 3d & the 9th if I could accomplish Girard I should be very happy to do it, unless some totally unforeseen School Bd. affair comes up. They have been sufficiently unexpected of late to lead one to make no plans without counting them in. Always your loving sister

P.S.

We are sending two silver articles to choose from for wedding presents. Mr [Hazenplug] has gone to Japan and we seem rather short of metalwork.
