My dear Miss Addams:

Your letter of September 2nd, relative to the suggested work for the National Federation of Settlements by Dr. Thomas, should have been answered much sooner, but an answer has been difficult to give, as I should so much like to see Dr. Thomas get some suitable employment.

Although I have not taken the question up squarely with Miss Culver, I judge that she would not be willing to finance such a series of studies, as is outlined in the enclosures you sent, although she might possibly contribute something towards it, if some other person or persons would stand back of it and be responsible for it financially.

I should think, moreover, that any such persons would want to have a pretty definite estimate of what the work would cost before pledging anything towards it.

I am having copies of your enclosures made and am returning them to you herewith, in case you should wish to use them elsewhere.

Yours very truly,

CHARLES HULL EWING [stamped]
