Dear Miss Addams

I want to express my appreciation of your article on "Chicago Settlements and Social unrest" in "Charities and Commons."

I read the article humidly last week when I was very tired and have just reread it more leisurely. It must have taken great effort to write upon so complex a situation but you have succeeded admirably in making distinctions.

On some points I might differ but they are minor ones.

It is difficult to deal with all claims of people in a friendly way and not get mixed up in the public mind with some of their vagaries. The only way to remedy is to talk and explain.

Interpreting new immigrants to natives ↑& vice versa↓ is certainly good work and badly needed.

Yours with best wishes

Ellen A Martin
