Dear Miss Addams:
We are publishing the enclosed from Mr. Gage in this week's issue, growing out of an interview I had with him when I was in California. Mr. Gage shows a robust faith in democracy and liberty which might well be taken to heart by many of our public officials who seem to be given over to trepidation.
It occurred to me that this statement by a man of Mr. Gage's standing might be of service to you at the present time when you are again putting us all in your debt for your courage and leadership.
